Extracting selectable textual content from PDF files into raw, editable plain text (.txt) is crucial when copying quotes, conducting quantitative content analysis, importing data into spreadsheets, or migrating documentation into content management systems. PDFPK’s client-side text extractor parses your PDF document page-by-page, calculates exact word and character metrics, and allows instant copying or TXT download.
Select the text-based PDF document you wish to extract content from.
Our engine parses font mappings, ToUnicode CMap tables, and glyph encodings.
Examine real-time statistics including total word count, character count, and page counts.
Click "Copy All Text" or "Download TXT File" to use your content in Word, Notepad, or code editors.
Engineered for maximum security, lossless document preservation, and instant client execution.

Easily extract and copy text on smartphones and tablets on the go.
PDF files do not store text as simple ASCII or UTF-8 strings. Instead, they store glyph index references and font mapping matrices. When a user highlights text, PDF viewers use embedded ToUnicode CMap tables to translate internal glyph indices into human-readable Unicode codepoints. PDFPK’s extraction engine resolves these complex font dictionaries, ensuring accurate character conversion for ligatures, accents, diacritics, and international alphabets.
It is vital to distinguish between digitally authored PDFs (created from Word, Google Docs, InDesign, or LaTeX) and scanned bitmap PDFs (created by photographing or photocopying physical paper). Digitally authored PDFs contain actual character streams that our tool extracts with 100% fidelity. Scanned PDFs consist solely of raster images without embedded character data; extracting text from scans requires Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software.

If the PDF is a flat scan without an embedded OCR text layer, text extraction will return blank because the file only contains picture pixels. It works perfectly on digital PDFs created from Word, Docs, or digital printers.
Text extraction follows the reading order specified in the PDF stream. While paragraph continuity is preserved, complex multi-column layouts and tables are rendered as sequential lines.
